Volunteer your skills so that together we can make an even bigger impact.
Sign upGetting ahead through volunteering
By volunteering for a project, or even just getting on a phone call to provide advice, you’re giving so much more than your time. You’re making a big difference for our charitable partners, and it’s a great way to support your development and positive mental and social wellbeing too.
Our charitable themes
At GSK, we focus our charitable investments with organisations that are closely aligned to our purpose - to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together. Through skills-based volunteering you can partner with like-minded charities and community organisations to support programmes that have local, national and international impact in the themes of Health for People, Health for Planet, and Innovators for the Future.

Frequently asked questions
New around here? Start with the basics.
GSK have partnered with Catchafire to create this skills-connector platform. Through Catchafire, employees are able to directly support causes they care about by helping nonprofits with projects that match their skill sets. And because projects can be completed from anywhere, Catchafire makes it possible for nonprofits and skilled volunteers to connect for good, from all around the world!
Skills-based volunteering is a high impact form of volunteering that allows you to donate
your professional skills and expertise, which in turn allows a nonprofit to build its
capacity and focus more efficiently on its mission.
Skilled volunteers help nonprofits fill critical knowledge and staffing gaps and work as
thought partners on strategic projects completing specific projects that require
specialised skills, training, or experience. Very often, the relationships between
volunteers and nonprofits extend far beyond the scope of the initial project that brought
them together.
A specific example of skills-based volunteering is a marketing professional who
volunteers to help a nonprofit create a marketing strategy.
Most people will have the opportunity to volunteer for one or two days each year by taking part in a Together Day, increasing to four days for a smaller number of skills-based volunteering opportunities. To make these skills-based volunteering opportunities possible, we’ve partnered with Catchafire to create this skills-connector platform – allowing you to connect with charitable partners who need our help the most.
Catchafire provides you with the opportunity to directly support our charitable partners and organisations through volunteering your professional skills and experience. We believe that skills-based volunteering is another way we can make an impact to help us get ahead together.
- Please read the GSK’s Volunteering Enterprise Written Standard which sets out guidelines for taking volunteer time, gaining line manager approval and required time tracking.
- Please read GSK’s Grants and Donations Policy which sets out the principles and ethical standards that must apply when we provide grants or donations, including volunteering time, to support independent activities by third parties.
The organisation will review your application to decide whether they want to move forward with an interview. If so, you will be contacted by Catchafire to schedule the call. Organisations are encouraged to decide promptly, but there is no set timeline for when they will reply.
After the interview, you can log into your account dashboard and ACCEPT or PASS on the match. Once both parties accept, you are officially matched and can begin the project. If you need to exchange any materials or have follow-up conversations to determine if it is a good fit after the interview, you are encouraged to do so.
If there are volunteer opportunities available in your region, you'll have the option to filter by location. However, since all Catchafire engagements are meant to be completed virtually, we encourage you to focus on finding projects that best fit your skills & interests, regardless of location.
Yes! All projects have been designed to allow you to work with the organisation remotely.
Projects vary in length from 1 to 50 hours, depending on the project type. Estimated hours are indicated for each project. Please read GSK’s Volunteering Enterprise Written Standard which sets out guidelines for taking volunteer time, gaining line manager approval and required time tracking.
GSK and ViiV people who are passionate about volunteering can contribute 2 days and
no more than 4 days, up to a maximum of 32 hours, total in a year (including Together Days) of their time and skills to an approved skills-based volunteering project.
Yes! In fact, we recommend you apply to 2-4 projects at any given time. This will maximize your chances of matching. If you end up being selected for too many projects, you can always withdraw your application before or after you interview with the organisation. Once you say yes, we ask that you honor your commitment to work with the organisation.
Catchafire is committed to making sure everyone who wants to volunteer their skills can do so. If you are having trouble finding a project that fits, feel free to contact Catchafire at [email protected] for help.
Yes, however the organisation must:
- Adhere to the principles outlined in GSK’s Grants and Donations Policy
- Have a GSK or ViiV Healthcare Business Owner responsible for due diligence (e.g., Third Party Risk Management)
- Align to one of our charitable investment themes – innovators for the future, health for people, health for the planet.
If an organisation meets these requirements, please email GSK’s Charitable Investment team at [email protected] with confirmation that the requirements have been met along with the contact details of the organisation (e.g., name of organisation, country/region, contact name and email, contact title, link to website). The Charitable Investment team will review and make the final determination to invite.
